The firsts bounced back after their midweek draw against Doncaster to defeat Cheltenham 5-0 at Surrey Park on Saturday.
A run in the first off an infield single by Nathan Aron and a wild throw, scored Rob Hondo who got on through a double, and three runs in the second off hits from Blackmore, Boone and a HPB to Scott Moore, followed by a Nathan Aron double was all the run support Andy Mann needed. Another run in the 5th innings from a Kim double, knocked in by Alex Hondo was more than enough insurance for the excellent work by Andy and then Liam Davine in long relief on the mound.
The hot bats have continued since xmas with 3 Hits to Nathan Aron, 2 hits to Rob and Al Hondo, Kim, Blackmore and hits to Ayers, Kent and Boone whilst Andy Mann went 5 innings for 4 K's, 3H and 4BB and Liam Davine pitched 4 innings for 2 hits, 5K's and only 14 batters in relief.
The midweek game at Cheltenham was washed out and with a 4 game lead in their conference and 5 games to play, the magic number is one win to seal 1st place in the Eastern conference.
Division 1 Reserves
The seconds had a good win 5-2 over top placed Cheltenham, while both sides were missing some key players, our depth at this level is showing through. With only 3 games to go, the team may secure a place in the finals with a win this weekend.
Division 1 Thirds
A dissapointing game from the outset, going down 11-1. Whilst almost qualified for finals, the team must turn it around if it looks to challenge for the premiership.
Division 1 Fourths
An all the way win in a good display by the fourths - winning comfortably by mercy rule. The win catapults the team into fourth place but still needs to keep winning to qualify for finals.
Another lovely night for another game v 4th placed Waverley, and whilst last week was a last innings victory, tonight was a little more straight forward. A lead off walk for Waverley and a bobbled ground ball at left field allowed Waverley to score in the first, whilst we were sat down. In the second we lit it up, with The Chairman's much anticipated return leading off. Dave smashed a double as did Waz, Mitch was walked as was Ben, Bryce singled as did Jason, then big hitting Fat Bastard Michael Hill smashed a first pitch Grand Slam to the Myrtle Park clubrooms for a compulsory close at seven runs.
Our scoring continued in the third with Lard walking, Dave single, Waz single, Mitch singled and then it was Sean Edwards turn to smash a three run bomb that set up a five run third inning, and a 12-2 lead bringing the game into our control. In the meantime, Lard was warmed up and over four innings allowed only three hits, with three Ks and one ER. We scored another two in the fourth with a single to Murray followed by ANOTHER Michael Hill HR gem, and in the fifth we scored four with a smashed lead off double to Sean, walk to Ben Neave, singles to Jason Webster and Jason Bulger, walk to Murray, and a single to Lard. Unfortunately Bryce only got to spin one innings in his return from the US, with fading light and a 18-2 lead not encouraging the Waverley lads to bat a final innings when the beers were cold at Surrey. Big top of the table clash v Research next week at Research.
