Melbourne Head Coach announcement 2021/22

The Melbourne Baseball Club is excited to announce the appointment of Brad Harman as Head Coach for this season.  Brad is a former Major Leaguer with the Philadelphia Phillies and a former member of the Melbourne Baseball club as a player in 2007/08.

Brad signed with the Phillies organisation in 2003 and debuted with the GCL Phillies the next year. At the end of the season he led shortstops with a .928 fielding percentage. Later that year he played for the Australian under-19 national team.

Harman starred in the 2005 Claxton Shield, winning both the Gold Glove Award and Helms Award as the MVP of the tournament while leading the New South Wales Patriots to the title.

In 2005, Harman debuted for the Australian national baseball team, in 2007 he starred at the Baseball World Cup, batting .275 and scored 11 runs in 10 games for Australia.

In 2008, the Phillies added Harman to their 40-man roster. He started with the Double-A Reading Phillies in 2008 and was called up to the majors on 20 April 2008. He debuted as a pinch-hitter on 22 April and went on to win a World Series Ring with the Phillies organisation despite only appearing in a handful of games.

Since then Brad represented the Melbourne Aces in 228 games until 2017 amassing207 hits at .252 over 6 seasons. Brad has been running a Junior Academy at Melbourne over the winter, educating our junior hitters on all aspects of their offense.


The club is also pleased to announce that Hayden Godbold will be returning as Pitching Coach and alongside him will be Ben Smith as 3rd Base Coach.

More announcements regarding other coaching positions, the 2021/22 training plan and start times will be made in the coming weeks.
